About Antone’s:

Antone’s Nightclub, the first club on 6th street, opened its doors in the summer of 1975 with the great Clifton Chenier. The venue, now located at the corner of 5th and Lavaca Street, was founded by legendary promoter Clifford Antone and has hosted such blues “greats” as Muddy Waters, B.B. The John H. Reagan High School Marching Band has been chosen by Mayor Parker to perform in the 2012 National Independence Day Parade in Washington D.C.! This is a great honor and a once-in-a-lifetime trip for these kids! But as you can imagine with transportation and housing costs it is VERY expensive to get 90 kids over there. To help raise money, the RHS Music Department is having a Spaghetti Dinner on Friday, March 23rd from 5-8pm in the RHS cafeteria. The Reagan Lockjaw Drumline, Mariachi, & Jazz Band will provide entertainment for the early evening and Los Guerreros de la Musica featuring Vanessa Alonzo will close the night with a special concert!

LGM performs at the 2012 ConocoPhillips Rodeo Run

ConocoPhillips Rodeo Run

The 25th annual ConocoPhillips Rodeo Run will take place on Saturday, Feb. 25, 2012. This tradition, which raises scholarship funds for Texas youth, will once again lead the Houston Livestock Show and RodeoTM (HLSR) Parade past thousands of cheering spectators in downtown Houston. Last year, nearly 13,000 participants took part in the 10K and 5K Rodeo Run, raising $360,000 for the HLSR Educational Fund. Since the race began in 1988, the company has raised $2.9 million for the college scholarship fund.
Runners and walkers experience Houston’s only point‐to‐point 10K race and 5K fun run/walk in a festive atmosphere that celebrates the city’s western heritage. A combination of Southern hospitality and generosity, along with a Texas‐sized
post‐race party, makes the run one of the most popular and memorable events in the region. This year an expected 15,000 runners and walkers will participate in the event.

The Rodeo Run is famous for Texas hoopla and a festive atmosphere throughout the entire race course, and this year we’re stepping it up by adding music along the course. This initiative will help draw more runners, walkers & spectators to the event and will help raise a record amount for the HLSR Ed. Fund. We invite you to join in the fun!

Racecourse

The 10K race and 5K fun run/walk racecourses are point-to-point, starting in downtown Houston at the corners of Texas Avenue and Smith Street, and finishing at Minute Maid Park. To ensure everyone’s safety, the 2012 event will kick off with the start of the 10K race followed minutes later by the 5K fun run/walk. Expect plenty of hoopla and large crowds of cheering spectators as participants lead the Houston Livestock Show and RodeoTM parade.

The ConocoPhillips Rodeo Run 10K is sanctioned by USA Track & Field and the Gulf Association of USA Track & Field. 10K race participants are expected to strictly adhere to USA Track & Field operating regulations. The 5K fun run/walk is unsanctioned, noncompetitive, and fun for the whole family!

While the 5K route remains flat along the downtown streets, 10K participants will find a one mile elevated portion of the route as it travels over the Elysian Viaduct north of downtown and a spectacular view of the downtown skyline coming back over the viaduct shortly before the finish at Minute Maid Park.

About Vanessa:

Vanessa Alonzo made her Houston Grand Opera debut in the concert premiere of
“To Cross the Face of the Moon” at the Wortham Theater Center in November 2010. She began her training with the late Alfonso Guerra at Multicultural Education and Counseling through the Arts (MECA). Mrs. Alonzo has been a featured performer with mariachi ensembles throughout Houston since 1998. In 1999, Vanessa was named “Best of Show Vocalist” at Ford-Lincoln Mercury’s Mariachi Vargas Extravaganza Vocal Competition. Her notable credits include tours to Ireland, Mexico, Norway and Vietnam. In 2002, Vanessa performed at the Opening Ceremonies for the Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Television credits include an appearance on Univision’s, Cristina, as a participant in the Festival de Rancheras and as a finalist on the hit TV show, Tengo Talento Mucho Talento. Mrs. Alonzo is a former student of Tenor and Houston Grand Opera Studio Alumnus, Gabriel Gonzalez.

Renuncio Tu Amor will be a featured song on Los Guerreros de la Musica’s
debut album, El Mundo Entero, set to be released summer 2012.

Coming all the way from Charleston, SC, Megan Jean and the KFB will open up the show with their foot-stompin’, guitar beatin’, upright lickin’, washboard scratchin’, banjo pickin’ madness with a voice like you just ain’t heard before!!

Next, Houston legend, Lupe Olivarez and BombaChica will kick up the volume with their heavy Spanish Rock riffs and smooth, original style. Guaranteed to be a great set! What else can I say?? THESE GUYS KNOW HOW TO JAM!!!

Digging deep into their TEXICAN roots will be Los Pistoleros de Tejas! Los Pistoleros evoke the very essence of Gulf Coast music. With influences of traditional Tex-Mex Conjunto, Norteño, Cumbia, Rock, Cajun, Blues, and Soul, Los Pistoleros are a salsa picante dipped with English and Spanish lyrics. Boundaries are non-existent for Roberto Rodriguez on accordion and the rest of Los Pistoleros!
